Archives

Within the Solent Sky Museum, is a very extensive Archive Research Department, which contains documented British Aviation History, with a particular emphasis on Hampshire, The Solent and The Isle of Wight.

These archives contain thousands of aeronautical photographs, original drawings, maps, models, artefacts and reports relating to the area. In addition we have an extensive library of books and magazines reaching back to the earliest days of flight.

The archive is far too extensive to be catalogued here, but a major part of the archives are the records from the Supermarine Aviation Company and it's aeroplanes, including original diagrams by RJ Mitchell and the first test reports of the prototype Spitfire.

In addition, we also hold records from the other 25 Aviation Companies, that existed in the Solent region, incluiding, but not limited to:

Follands.
Cierva.
A.V. Roe.
Cunliffe Owen.

Solent Sky Museum, also holds copies of the biographies of many of the great peronalities involved in this impressive era in the aviation industry...
